Consumers International comments on new draft UN resolution for UNGCP

14 January 2015

Consumers International has welcomed the publication of the draft resolution on the UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection (UNGCP), but believes more work is still needed if it is to meet the needs of consumers in the 21st century.

The first draft of the resolution on the revision of the UNGCP was recently released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and will be put before the UN General Assembly later this year.

The draft resolution includes an Annex with a draft of the revision of the UN Guidelines.

CI welcomes much of the content of the resolution and the Annex, and is pleased to see that many of our recommendations have been included. However there are also significant areas for improvement and we have made a number of further recommendations.

The draft will be discussed at a meeting in Geneva in late January where a CI delegation will be representing our Members.
