New Advocacy Action Guide launched
Consumers International (CI) has launched a new tool to support consumer organisations and other civil society organisations to campaign effectively.
The Advocacy Action Guide, developed jointly by Consumers International and the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids (CTFK), provides step-by-step advice on how to plan and execute successful advocacy campaigns in the public health arena.
The guide is designed to help consumer groups and other civil society organisations plan and conduct effective advocacy campaigns that will result in the adoption and implementation of strong effective public health policies.
The best practices outlined in the guide have been drawn from the considerable combined advocacy experience of both CTFK and CI, encompassing more than 300 documented policy change achievements at every level.
The Advocacy Action Guide provides a snapshot of the key elements of an advocacy campaign, and corresponding tools that help consumer groups and Civil Society Organisations walk through those elements.
These elements range from identifying clear policy objectives to how best to conclude a campaign. Each chapter of the toolkit outlines best practice and then follows with worksheets that can be used to implement the guidance.
The guide can act as a road map for consumer organisations to help realise the important role they play in improving public health policies so that consumers are offered the best possible protection.
The project was undertaken as part of the Bloomberg Advocacy Incubator.
