Working towards inclusive e-commerce:
the UNCTAD eTrade for All platform

With World Consumer Rights Day 2018 just over three months away, many of you will now be in the early stages of planning your topic choices, campaigns and advocacy calls for March 15.

A central aim of next year’s campaign is to make digital marketplaces fairer and more inclusive for consumers across the globe.

Alongside the campaign pack and briefings we shared with members last month, we would also like to recommend UNCTAD’s eTrade for All platform as an excellent source of information and resources relating to e-commerce.

The e-trade for All Initiative was launched in July 2016 at UNCTAD’s 14th ministerial conference in Nairobi. It aims to addressing existing knowledge gaps and connect developing country governments, partners and donors working on e-commerce.

How could it work for you?

UNCTAD’s eTrade for All is a multi-stakeholder platform that provides free resources, services and networking opportunities that could be useful when planning campaigns and advocacy action around the theme of digital market places. It’s particularly useful for members in developing countries but includes lots of global resources:

  • The latest news and announcements: The eTrade for All news section provides regular updates on initiatives, announcements and events.
  • Useful trends and statistics: Finding easily accessible, country-specific data on e-commerce can often be a challenge. eTrade for All includes a searchable database.
  • Research and publications: The platform includes a section that collates resources and publications on e-commerce from international and regional UN bodies and other partner organisations.
  • E-commerce events: The events section of the platform has information on upcoming regional events and how you can you attend.

Keep in touch

In the run up to World Consumer Rights Day we are collecting best practice examples and resources relating to digital marketplaces. If you have come across similarly useful examples that we can share with our membership we want to hear from you. Please let us know by emailing wcrd@consint.org or by contacting your regional networker.
