Tribune of Consumers and Users of Ecuador
María José Troya began her career in the women's movement, where she was coordinator of Women for Democracy, and president and executive director of the Foundation Woman and Society. She is currently the Executive Director of Tribuna Ecuatoriana de Consumidores y Usuarios (TECU), organization founded in 1997, by a civil society group of non-governmental organisations.
TECU is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1997. Its purpose is to inform, educate and defend all consumers and users in Ecuador. Its main activities are: legal advice to consumers; product testing; dissemination of test results; participation in standard and other regulatory bodies at the national level. Product safety and sustainable consumption are the main areas of expertise of Tribuna. It also tries to influence public policies and lobbies in favour of the adoption of new legislation when necessary.
